Thinking About Pro Membership? Well Worth It... 1 Month, 1 Week ago
I recently upgraded to the Pro Membership here on this site. I'm only 2 video's into Tom's "Introduction to Digital Audio Production Using Ableton Live" and I've learned more in these first 2 hours than I ever have the entire time I've been using Ableton Live. Don't let the "simplicity" of the first few minutes of the first video fool you, he is laying the fundamental foundations for what you are about to learn further ahead using the absolute basics of analog synthesis and MIDI automation. A "simple" single oscillator saw waveform in Ableton's Analog can be turned into something that sounds quite impressive once you have learned the techniques.

What makes Tom's tutorials stand out from the rest is the fact that he teaches you in the "ins and outs" of Ableton using his techniques and artistic methods. Doing this teaches you not just theory, but how to put that theory into use in a creative and artistic way. Tom is very thorough in his explanations when showing you his methods and technique at the same time making it very easy to follow and duplicate what he is doing in the video's.

One thing I have been doing is keeping a plain .txt bookmark file at the points in the videos that I might want to reference to while working on my own stuff. It saves having to scan through an entire 1 hour video looking for the part you need information for. The Pro Membership is well worth the 10$ IMHO and at such a low price I imagine it goes towards the upkeep, server costs and bandwidth to keep this great website afloat.

Just my opinion that I thought I would share for those thinking of signing up.

Completely agree. I just became a Pro member and learnt more in the 3 hours of vids Ive watched so far than the whole Ableton course I paid $100s for. Do yourself a favour and upgrade its awesome.
Thanx Tom

Agree. I can't really afford it, but its been very valuable, far more than the equiv amount in books or classes.

@Jocko, I have been indexing files by using Camtasia to record them with bookmarks. I can add bookmarks, highlight cursor movements, add text callouts, etc.

Mostly I do this while I'm watching them. It takes longer to watch them to do this work, but I can also go back over them and quickly find the points I want to review.

Check out Camtasia or other similar programs. You just drag the .mov file onto the timeline, and start setting markers.

It would be cool to post these indexed tutorials somewhere, or better yet, for Tom C to make them with bookmarks already in them.

Anyway, Tom does an exceptional job.

That's a great idea. I'll try it out with Expression Encoder.

@wfws Camtasia is a great application for bookmarking videos and other stuff, thanks for the great suggestion!

One thing I'd like to suggest for the pro members section, are download links to all of Tom's free video's as well as as the Pro Vids. This is so we can watch them without having to have our browsers open hogging system memory and also just in case they become none accessible for some reason on Vimeo.
