Here's the spiel.
The workshop will be aimed towards producers/DJs who are interested in moving out of the studio and into live performance, or wish to find out easy ways to make their existing set more lively. Topics include
- the benefits of playing a real Live set
- manipulating your music in real time
- how to convert your existing tunes into a "Live ready" set and a real-time example of how easy it can actually be to make the transition using my personally developed techniques and software macros (which will be provided for free)
- Routing your finished track to the master via specific sub groups (Bass, Percussion, Synths etc)
- Resampling or rendering your tune using these subgroups to create a layered final render
- Chopping the rendered layers easily into clips ready to import into session view
- Mastering follow actions to ensure your new live set has a strong safety net providing more room for improvisation
- Cutting down CPU and number of unessasary clips by using native Ableton effects and send channels
- More super geeky shi
I really encourage anyone to come down who has any interest in electronic music, I'm going to get right into the guts of Ableton, but my main point is to show a new, fast and safe way of getting your tunes live ready.
The workshop will be at 6:15pm on Saturday the 16th in the Luminal Village, they are decking the usual workshop space with technology for this one (so I am told!) including multiple flat screens around the building... if you can handle geeking it in the heat do come and say hi!.

I move through several areas, starting with the physics of sound and the effects it has on the human brain; right through to creating sound from scratch in the studio using sequencers and synthesizers. The workshop is very interactive, and participants are able to watch and contribute to real time examples of how sound can be produced, layered and structured using a computer. The second part of my workshop is how to take tunes that have been created in the studio (using the tune from the first part of the workshop as an example) and move this into a form which can be performed live using a laptop and various other equipment.
Experience:
I have travelled around the world giving these particular workshops to mixed audiences of all levels and ages. My experience ranges from small, intimate groups like discussions at schools and youth centres, to large interactive seminars at respected festivals (Rainbow Serpent for example).
As well as my workshops, I have been performing as a live electronic musician around the world for 4 years at some of the major parties and festivals.

- Rainbow Serpent Festival 2007 and 2008 / Australia / www.rainbowserpent.net
- Ultra Groove Festival 2008 / Brazil / www.triskelemanagement.com
Requirements:
My workshop requires a small soundsystem which I can connect my audio gear too. This is for examples and is not required to be loud (such as one that would be used on a dancefloor). My noise is not intrusive and would not clash with surrounding events.
I also require either a projector screen, or a large LCD/PLASMA panel as to show what is happening on my laptop as I talk, as well as present my power point slides. If it is a projector, there is a light pollution element… it is best to give this workshop in the evening when there is low sunlight if a projector is to be used.
Workshop 1: An Introduction to Audio Production
Running time : 90 Minutes
A workshop for people with an interest in creating electronic music, or for those who want to start producing music but never knew how. Topics covered include the basic physics and mathematics of audio waveforms ;the effect these waveforms have on the brain and why we have grown to appreciate them; basic elements of sound synthesis and design; basic elements of sampling and laying down beats; a basic run-down of using a linear based sequencer (Ableton live), and how it is used to construct a tune.
Workshop 2: Advanced Workshop: From studio to live show
Running time : 90 minutes
A specialty workshop aimed towards producers/djs who are interested in moving out of the studio and into the world of live, or wish to find out easy ways to turn their existing live set more live. Topics include the benefits of actually playing a real live; manipulating your music real time; how to covert your existing tunes into a “live ready” set; a real time example of how easy it can actually be using my personally developed techniques and software tools (which will be provided for free to anyone), and neat things you can do live with your music once you begin, so you can start to become more confident in experimenting with your new live set.
*both workshops can run consecutive to each other with a short break in between
Post Workshop:
A pack of the (free) sounds and software used in the workshop will be made available to anyone who attended the workshop through my website after the workshop. Participants can visit my website where they recap on the workshop, further their interest by viewing free online tutorial videos, or discuss/ask questions with myself and other audio geeks.
Please contact me if you are interesting in booking a workshop in your area.
