  • Tell me about you and where you came from

    Hello,

My name is Bill. I am from a little town called Windsor in Sydney, Australia.
Throughout my life I have always been exposed to music.

When I was 5 my mother bought me a Casio CTK-330 (which is now in the process of being circuit bent). I screwed around on this machine for a few years before getting bored and moving on to bigger and better things.
When I was about 10 I was given a guitar also by my mother which I proceeded to play every day for the next 10 years for a few hours a day.

I studied music throughout high school then went on to TAFE afterwards. When I was 17 I studied drums at NIRIMBA TAFE in Quakers Hill, Sydney, Australia. I had the naive attitude that it was taking up too much time listening to people talk about music and not spending enough time playing. So I dropped out and continued to play guitar and drums at home for the next few years.

In this space of time I was in a few different bands and was regularly jamming with many musicians just having fun with instruments until I was introduced to Ableton Live by a friend who had convinced me that Garage band (the program I was using to plot my ideas previously) was totally not the go.
After using Live for a few months and realising its true potential I didnʼt look back.

From then on, I spent all the time I used to play guitar and drums to work out how Ableton Live works.
After spending much time working out the inʼs and outʼs of Live I decided it was time to go and learn the inʼs and outʼs of sound theory, why things do what they do, how we can implement these things in different ways etc. So I started studying Audio Engineering at SAE, Sydney, Australia.

I have currently just finished my diploma at SAE and I am now in the process of completing the Bachelor.

I hope you enjoy what I do and I hope to hear from you all soon!
Thanks very much for your support!

    Cheers,
    Bill.

  • Myself and Will Marshall, created this stems-based template for the Akai APC40, designed to help producers get started performing their own material live. We've built some really cool performance FX, as well as wrote a custom script for the APC40 which (when enabled) changes the default behavior of the controller. Included in the template are four tracks worth of stems, to help get you started.

You can check out some tutorial videos, and pictures explaining more about this here - willmarshall.me/products/glitch-factory

    Cheers,
    Bill.

  • Hey guys,

So today I took part in a competition being run by Ableton called Beat The Clock.

I hate to be this guy, but can you please vote for this remix I did for a contest that Ableton is running.

You can vote here - contest.ableton.com/tracks/103

I know how annoying it is when people ask you to vote for their shit all the time (I've actually never done it before), but 1st place prize is a trip to Berlin to meet Ableton and SoundCloud, so if you're in Europe, this is good thing! It means I'll most likely play some shows closer to you than I've ever been before!

Anyway, the contest states that you have to finish a track (with the stems they provided) within 24 hours. I did mine in about 11 hours.

Also, anyone that votes, I'll give you a free wav download of the track! I'm just going to go off an honesty based system here, so basically if you message me and say, hey I voted give me that track I'll give it to you, but please actually vote if you can!

Additionally, if you can share this idea around to other people that would be much appreciated

if anyone else is interested in entering this contest, you can do it here - contest.ableton.com/

    Cheers,
    Bill.
