Hello all!

This is a list of where people are at as far as I'm aware, I've made a couple of guesses but I think it's pretty close. Please let me know if I've made any mistakes and I will update the list!

Confirmed
cyper
Damon Breakz
Happenstance
Jmo
lucdo159
MOutcast
Scheimann
Sonic Grenade
xtree

Maybe
Effulgence
Harmonic climber

Haven't Heard From
9000knobs
ImmensusMusic
Sanquid
warlock
whoisvyranis

Mastering
paniono

I have managed to borrow a computer for the time being and am in the midst of installing VST's and such so should be back up and running soon!

@xtree I think we can just use our current Soundcloud group for uploading and working out kinks, as long as we label stuff WIP I don't think It'll make too much difference, a majority of our fans are through our Facebook group anyway.

@Everybody 24th August deadline for finished tracks! That gives us less than 3 weeks to play with. Looking forward to hearing some more tunes!

Hey guys, just very quickly skimmed through this post, looks like things are beginning to crystalize here?

Looking forward to do mastering. So I guess submission deadline is set to 24 of august?

I will try to be a bit more organized, and try to master the tracks out of a template preset that I will make. I think that should work out nice, as the tracks this time will be more similar this time. This will be fun.

If anyone has tracks finished already that you want me to have a go at, just PM me in this forum :)

Happenstance, good to hear you are back with a computer and unscathed, due to you being the backup king :)

Paniono,

Weapon of Bass Technology is my 'backup' track, if my Zepelim remix is not approved by the owners of the original (Duo Carioca...but it should be ok though..as long as I make it good, as they are my friends).

So, I could give you my WOBT track so you can to start experimenting with DnB mastering and then we can keep the master in case we need to put it on the album.

I just want to maybe shorten the end of the track for the album. I will take a look tonight or over the next couple of days and send you a file! (44.1kHz, 24bit, un-mastered is ok right?)

DamonBreakz: Sounds great, send it to me when you are ready :)
44.1kHz, 24bit, un-mastered will work nicely.

By the way, to everybody that is going let me have a go at mastering (mwhaahahahaha):
  • 44.1 is CD quality, if I will recieve higher sample rates, I might return the mastered track both in original and in 44.1 kHz.

  • Submitted tracks should have a bitrate of 24 or 32 bit.

  • When exporting the final track before mastering, please remove any compressors, limiters, and (other fx that might reduce the dynamic range of the track as a whole) from the master channel. To be clear, this of course only applies to the master channel. And if you want to do "mastering-like" things with your track, like adding eq, compression and so on, I recommend doing that in other ways, for instance to use parallell compression (this might be helpful )

  • Lastly, I recommend putting as much effort into making a good mix as you can, taking care to adjust levels and eq'ing on each channel, this is not time wasted :)

Paniono, I'm just sending you a shortened, slightly remixed version of Weapon of Mass Destruction via WeTransfer....now I am tempted to ask you all, would it be cool for me to..er  .....put two tracks on the album? :silly:

Hi guys,
Adding this link, as it seems to explain how much headroom to leave before mastering :)
cdmusicmastering.com/how-much-headroom-for-mastering.html

BTW
Anyone here have any DNB Artist that you like that you might recommend me listen to? New - old - classic anything. I have mainly listened to two DnB artists earlier in my life, Grooverider and Black Sun Empire. Want to get a bit into the groove, get to know the genre :)

I really like DJ Fresh's tracks now Gold Dust / Louder/ Hot right now. Commercial sound but ..fresh..

I used to be into Adam F tracks(Circles , F Jam, Dirty Harry) Adam F is actually now DJ Fresh 's business partner , Goldie Timeless was the first album to get me of course, early Jungle had a big influence on me anything from around 1993-1996 Roni Size, DJ Red - 'Enter The Dragon', a bit of Roni Size, a bit of LTJ Bukem, Photek as well is really mind blowing. Square pusher has some great DnB influenced tunes too. but I was into the pure DNB , Dom & Roland and anything on the Moving Shadow label, the original prodigy/master Andy C Nightflight/Long dark tunnel...., DJ Hype, DJ Zinc, Alex Reece, T-Power, Ed Rush, Optical ..but then it all started getting really evil/nasty sounds which I wasn't into, but man there is so much stuff to choose from ! also DJ Marky for a Brazilian flavour =)

Hey guys

Well here's my track - it's quite mellow for DnB so let me know what you think.

"Melt" by Maiden & Machine

I'm also working on a heavier track which I hope to get finished in time so that'd put me in a situation similar to Damon. I had intended to get you guys to decide which tune you prefer...though if I don't pull finger you'll be stuck with "Melt" by default!

@Paniono - stoked you're onboard with mastering again! And yes, I will take heed to your recommendations regarding how you need our mixdowns to be.

Nice one Janelle, I really like the chords, the bass the Resonator on the drums and your voice with overdubs.

I don't find it too mellow at all! Curious to hear your heavier track :)

BTW, I have just updated mine today, and I would greatly appreciate feedback! I have worked that much on it that I'm not able to analyse it anymore :p

Thanks Damon, really happy you appreciate my hard work! :)

I had a listen at your track, I really its personality. Some improvements would be welcome on the mix-down, it's a little flat IMHO, I would try to boost some elements to make the track punchier.

Cheers,

Luc

yeah I'm going to see what Paniono can do. The original I uploaded last year sounded punchier as I had a lot of compression and eq on it. I am not really very good at mixing man ..so I don't think I will do any more to the track - I would probably just make it worse! =) Hopefully Paniono's pastering will make it sound more punchy like my old version, but better.

Hey guys! Sorry for being AWOL for a long time. Been busy with my day job and been working on two tracks for my first Beatport release. If you want previews send me a message.

I still haven't had time to work on a track for this compilation album and don't think I'll get the time before the 27th, so I will have to bow out of this album. But I'm still stoked to hear what you guys come up with!

Wow, lots going on!

I've left comments on everyone's tunes, all sounding really good! I might actually have two tracks ready as well, so I say we stick them all on the album if they're ready. (Assuming that's OK with you paniono!)

@paniono Some really nice links, I love that parallel compression one. The deadline for finished tracks is 24th August, that's for a 31st August release which will give you a week to finish any mastering stuff, is that enough time for you?

@vyranis Sorry to hear you can't make it, see you on the next one! Good luck with your Beatport release.

I think we can start uploading stuff to the Soundcloud account now, if anyone needs the details email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Also, we have a Dropbox that came in quite useful last time for holding files and passwords and such, if you'd like an invite to that email me!

Awesome to see stuff rolling along!

hey Guys,

Paniono's done a quick master of my track.

soundcloud.com/damonbreakz/weapon-of-bass-technology-preview

You can hear it has compressed and fattened it back up again.

I need to lift some of the synth lines up which have gotten quiet, and based on Soundcloud feedback I will also do the following:

Add more crashes/cymbals
Add parallel compression on the bass to fatten it and increase the stereo field a bit and EQ it to have more high frequencies.

I start working of both my tracks tomorrow so let me know of any more ideas to improve it. Nothing too drastic though as I need to spend time to move on to my other tune, the remix of the Brazilian Duo.
