Hello all!

Sorry for my absence the last couple of weeks, I've been working on an Alice In Wonderland inspired event as part of my degree and haven't had a second to think!

I should be fairly available from here on in however.

This is the artist list so far!

9000knobs
cyper
Damon Breakz
Effulgence
fcarroll
Happenstance
Harmonic climber
ImmensusMusic
Jmo
lucdo159
MOutcast
Sanquid
Sonic Grenade
warlock
whoisvyranis
xtree

I said the deadline for new artists would be the start of June but I wouldn't have a problem with a couple more people getting involved at this stage!

I am going to start utilizing the projects section of the site in the next couple of days for deadlines and all other things cosmic, let me know if you are not invited and I'll suss out a way to add you.

EDIT: I have created a Project for the Drum & Bass Album. Mouse over 'Your Profile' at the top of this screen, then 'Projects', then ask to join the project and I'll let you in to the magical land of Cosmic Drum & Bass! That's the quickest way I can see, if I invite people I have to scroll though thousands of names by the looks of it.

Feel free to let me know any questions or issues, looking forward to making this happen now I have the time to sort it!

EDIT: @MOutcast I didn't realise you had done that, from how well this went last time, I think we should be OK without contributing our own money. Finance is something we need to discuss during the project development though.

Also, we still need an album name! Any ideas are welcome!

Dynamite! Glad to see things on track. I've been tied up too but just freed my schedule for the next few weeks. I will need to hire someone to prepare a final mix for mastering so if anyone here does that, & mastering, please message me or email me through the address on my website. thanks!

Heya. Happenstance, I can't seem to see the "Cosmic Core - DnB" under my profile>projects. Just the original cosmic core project. Anyone else see it?

Interesting, I can't see any projects now, even the original has gone.

I'll fix it tomorrow however, it's 5am here now and I should sleep.

Hey Happenstance!

Is this project still up?

I'm working on my track and I remember that the deadline was 15 of June, but I don't see much happening here, and nothing in the project section, am I missing something?

Thanks!

Absolutely!

I've been busy with an unforeseen project so I applogise for my absence!

I'm fairly sure I said the deadline for tracks was mid July, sorry if I did say June. I plan to start to roll out some stuff in the next couple of weeks to start to put the whole thing together. We have a few in progress tracks and I will PM people that I'm not sure about to see if they are still interested in taking part in the album!

I look forward to hearing your track!

EDIT: Is anyone able to add themselves to the Project I've set up yet? Mouse over 'Your Profile' at the top of this screen, then 'Projects', then ask to join the project.

If it's still not working I'll send Tom an email and see if we can fix it!

Also, we need an album name!

Ideas on a postcard.

As of 0210 UTC I don't see anything in Projects under my profile. I'm headed out for dinner and will check again when I get home.

Sorry I've been AWOL for a few days. It turns out that drum n' bass was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I think it might be faster for me to make a glitch hop track, which has a stripped down beat (87 bpm) which would have the regular drum n' bass rhythm without the 4/4 rides.

A lot like this track... soundcloud.com/singularity/nanox-original-mix

Would that be acceptable? or should I sit this one out?

@whoisvyranis I'm on board with some half time Drum & Bass!

Can someone try the project thing again and let me know if Tom has fixed it!

The project's are still empty. :( How about we set up an email list for project communications?

Sorry for the delay responding... I've been working to meet the deadline and finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel last night. After wrestling Live8 into shape on my system (it took a month longer then i anticipated coming up to speed) I'm uploading a WIP as I type this... it's all done in session mode and with the exception of the obvious (and genre specific) oomp-chuck panned to the center, the two drummers are fully written and playing back from clips on one track.

With that [*finally*] working glitch free I came down with a severe case of writers block. Grief. I looked for something new in the synth world to get the juices flowing and I found & bought Cyclop. I broke my deadlock within minutes of installing the synth. The direction I'm taking the track is to have the two drummers battle it out, old school style - trading 4's - and if I have time I'm going to add myself playing a new set of DW BamBoo drums panned to the center. That probably wont happen unless I get some help to save time. What do you think the chances are to get the following companies to contribute patches for their synths? I like the idea for many reasons, saving my bacon comes to mind :-D, and we can make the patch set available when the album is released. I'm using one track each of the following: Cyclop, Reason, SubBoomBass; and I have Zebra2 loaded into memory but it's not used in the WIP.

Cyclop is on the spotlight right now, and they could use the ad boost. I'm going to email them privately, but the idea of a public effort came to mind this morning, hence bringing it up here.

Hey xtree, does not seem to be so active here indeed :(
I had a listen at your track, nice atmosphere and some good ideas. If I can comment I would say that it is missing some subs on the bass and the drums are too wide and so the whole is loosing it's strength. Apart from that I like the drum work and the sounds.

Cheers,

Luc

Hi Luc,

I came to the same conclusion about the subs... it's good to know my ears are still objective... thank you for the comments!

I had compressors on each side of the [already mono] bass, side-chained to the opposite kicks. I loved the effect and the balance translated well, but the compressors were clicking. When I adjusted out the clicks the bass went flat.

I was over-zealous re the kick drums when I split the rhythms between the two drummers that day. All re-written today, it was. :) The L/R panning wasn't the problem, the writing for the drums was wrong... the two racks on either side weren't playing like drummers. : )

With any luck I'll get the bass squared away tomorrow...

Jeff

Cosmic People of the Core fear not, for I am here [trumpet fanfare]

yeah whatever..

=) Sorry I haven't been very vocal recently. I have been lost somewhere in the darkest tunnels of time and space, a lifeless lump of tortured self pity and apathy. but enough of my British summer experience, how are people's tracks going?

I was thinking of giving up making music recently..but had a long think and a change of heart, I will keep it going releasing what I can with you my cosmic core family. And tonight I got some welcome info to support this decision, something which has given me a bit of hope and happiness. The guy who is singing here at 11 minutes in Brazil's top band Monobloco, is over here in UK from Brazil and he has brought me a DVD of files from his track which I am doing a remix of on our album.

So this means I can get a much better sound as I have all the sounds separated. So I am feeling good! I might need another month but I'll have something ready for us and something great! (well..I hope hehe)

Cool.. so that was it , just a bit of news. Continue as you were =)

Good to hear your voice again (see your words?).

Now is the time to start making this happen, I've recently moved house and am just beginning to settle in so we can make this album a reality!

@xtree If you want to move forward with your email list, please feel free. As you mentioned, it doesn't look like we going to be able to use the Projects section. That being said, we managed the whole thing last time with just the forum so there's no reason we can't do that again!

Regarding the album name, I haven't thought of anything particularly interesting so I think we should just all it 'Cosmic Core - Drum & Bass' or something similar, that way we can have some consistency across future albums. Unless anyone has any burning ideas?

I will PM Senthrax to see if he's up for editing the website when the time comes and I'll take care of the Bandcamp and such.

Also, as this is a genre specific album, I think it's a good idea to email some music blogs that feature Drum & Bass and get them to spread the word of this release, that way everyone's a winner!

Looking forward to hearing some tracks over the next couple of weeks, lets push it to the next level!

Damn guys, good to see the Corps of the Core (or is it the other way around...heh) back online. Yeah, let's do it!

Re an eMail list for pre=release privacy, Happenstance, you know the names / people and I don't so if you would give me a list of usernames and email addresses I'll get an email list happening.

As to a potential name for the release, one of my sub-titles for working tracks (now at number 13) is "DnB From The Cosmic Core" - it fits the group, and personally, seeing as this is my first project (of any kind) upon returning to life from a 20 year virtual coma, it literally describes my journey and what I have in store for my second life. : ) This afternoon I reached that point in a project's planning where I know I've got a finished piece that only needs "finishing" ... with knowledge of the tools in hand to get it done on time.

Re getting the word out, yeah, everyone lurking, please help us. I've already got the word out to the SCV and BD DCI corps which is a huge audience... the album is scheduled to drop the week before their finals... and that's a crossover audience that reaches every geek-musician in high schools and universities around the globe. ;)
