Hello!

We of the Cosmic Core are putting together a Drum & Bass Album following the success of our previous non genre specific album, Cosmic Core Vol. 1.

The release date for this new album is 1st August, and will also be a freely available release.

The only problem is, our previous artwork guy is unavailable to help us because of his busy schedule. Can anyone help us create some amazing looking artwork for this new release? I'm sure any help would be much appreciated by everybody involved!

Original artwork can be found here...
cosmic-core.com/

If you're interested, either reply to this post or head over to our main thread here...
www.cosm.co.nz/index.php?option=com_kune...&id=10270&Itemid=175

All of the Photoshop files from the first release should be available for your copying, pasting, blending and filtering pleasure!

Cheers!

I'll get this thread rolling: here's a quick draft of something I'm working on, keeping the theme of the first artwork. After creating it, I realised that I put Drums instead of Drum (it'll be fixed in the next version).

Got some ideas to tweak it - but if you think of anything or have suggestions, then let me know

Another idea for artwork - any preference between this one and the previous one?

Fantastic work Scheimann! Personally, I really like the layout and the background of the first one.

If I remember rightly, we decided to call the album "Drum & Bass - From The Core"

Perhaps

"Vol. 2: Drum & Bass
From The Core"

rather than "Vol 2: Drums/Bass"

What do you think?

I just want it to be obvious that it's Drum & Bass.

Nice work though, thanks for your input!

woah ...I like the second one! only just noticed this!!!!

I like the fact someone is pointing to outer space, like he is saying "it came from there" but I also like the simple design and fluid style of the first one.

As per my post I just left on the album thread, the album name we decided on was 'From The Core Vol. 1 - Drum n Bass'. or variants thereof. Happenstance the final decision is your's :)

Fair point Damon, I do like that about the second one, I say we put it to the vote, I'll add a post on the main forum.

Also, "From The Core Vol. 1 - Drum & Bass" is now the official name of the album!

I'll make the changes to the Album Title, so you can see what it would look like

I'm busy today and tomorrow, so I'll look at it early on the weekend

Number two is the one for me. Do we own the rights on the photo?

Definitely this one. The contrast of the chain link fence and the cosmos nails many of out current problems and perspectives. : )

If there's a potential copyright problem, I have a photo or two of the California San Gabriel mountains (and many urban scenes) that *might* be a suitable replacement. I have some very good photos of the Los Angeles 2nd street tunnel but it's a theme shift. (It's the tunnel with glistening walls that has been in a few hundred movies.)

OFF TOPIC: Btw, the details of wording product names has always been a stickler because of the way search engines, applications and publishers treat text. Make sure the *exact" formatting of title matches the first release in terms of spaces and punctuation.

IE be mindful of the difference between "Vol.2 - " and "Vol. 2 - "

Personally, I don't see a need for volume-izing the name. "From The Core - Drum and Bass " is more appropriate. Adding vol 2 would happen if a second DnB album was released. My thinking is along the lines: why clutter and confuse the customer / listener with extra text and a non-existant volume number? In the long term, specific names are always better. 20 years to me is now a blink of an eye, and I will remember a specific title, but faced with hundreds of "Vol. n" titles none of them link to a specific memory.

Thinking in terms of this specific group, albums could be released for years before a title would need repeating... and when That time comes a new title is in order, not a number. : )

following up on the other comments I posted... why volumize the title? If the group gets around to releasing a second DnB release a new name would be in order.

"Drum and Bass From The Core" ... followed by
"Trance From The Core" ... and then something i could sink my teeth into... heh...
"Old School Funk From The Core"

(and it's easier to acronym-ize... and internet stations would chatter about new FTC releases, worded as they see fit... and the TC acronym could be pimped for decades... The Core visa-vie TC would be very cool and appropriate... after all none of this wouldn't be happening without Tom. : )

My vote's also for design #2. Really love it - great job!

And I agree with xtree. I was also thinking the "vol.x" thing was a bit cumbersome. So it's cool that xtree has mentioned it. By dropping it from the album names we can keep things simple yet flexible.

What's everyone elses thoughts?

Yeah i agree with Xtree too.

I actually prefer the name "Drum And Bass From The Core" too, it has a more music from the heart feel about it, it just sits better with me that title.... especially "Trance From The Core" :P

Hey guys, I know that this is becoming a thread-hijack in favour of namings but I think it's important that everyone is onboard. It's easier to discuss it now that we're seeing it in potential artwork and visualise it.

We all hope that these Cosmic Core albums are going to keep going for a really long time (till when we start to draw our pensions), so we need to a naming theme that stands the test of time.

To add some fuel to the fire, here's a list of popular compilation album titles:
  • Café del Mar, Vol 1
  • Now That's What I Call Music! 63
  • The Annual 2011
  • The Best Dance Album in the World... Ever! Part 1
  • fabric 20 - John Digweed
  • Ibiza Rocks Presents: Reclaim The Dancefloor
  • Ministry Of Sound - The Sessions Volume One

Hey crew,

The reason I liked the Vol. prefix is so when we're at Vol 10, people will be aware that there are 9 more albums to find, that being said; I see where you're all coming from.

Is everyone on board with "Drum & Bass From The Core", then the same theme for the following albums?
The other choice is "Drum And Bass From The Core" but I prefer the "&" personally. D&BTV and Drum & Bass arena spring to mind!

@Scheimann It looks like artwork number 2 is the winner, so lets make that the official artwork for the release!

Awesome to see things moving forward!

@Karl We could just call it 'Fish 'N' Chips From The Core' and change the artwork to suit, I'd like that.
